What?
The Qualification Games can be seen as a form of assessment for each player within the Tune Table Tennis Squads.
At the end of the Qualification Games, each player who participated will get an individual ranking within the squad in which they registered for that term. This ranking will determine which group coaching session they will be eligible for the following term.
How?
Each player within each squad will play a series of matches amongst their peers in a progressive round robin tournament. Once concluded, each player will have an individual ranking based on their performance:
The top 10 players will be in the A1 group
The middle 12 players will be in the A2 group
The bottom 10 players will be in the A3 group
The remaining 30 players will be in the B group
The bottom finishers from each relevant squad will play a Stage Two round robin with the top two finishers from each relevant squad. The top two finishers from this round robin will progress to/remain in the higher ranked squad. Note that the results from the main draw of each qualification tournament will be carried through to the Stage Two round robin. Stage Two round robin is purely to assist with balancing numbers within the Tune Table Tennis squads.
⚠️ IMPORTANT - A SQUAD:
The player who is ranked bottom of the A3 group will play against the player who is ranked top of the B group. The winner of this match will join the A3 group for next term, while the loser will join the B group for the next term.
⚠️ IMPORTANT - B SQUAD:
The player who is ranked bottom of the B group will play against the first player on our waiting list. The winner of this match will join the B group for next term, while the loser will join the waiting list for the next term and/ or join the list of casual players.
Purpose: why?
We aim to encourage our players to always train hard and try their best whenever playing our sport and each Qualification Tournament helps us to achieve this by providing an opportunity for those players who do so to progress within the Tune Table Tennis development pathway.
As such, the purpose for having Qualification Tournaments are to ensure that our squads consist of players with similar current playing levels, giving everyone a fair opportunity to play and get better.
When?
Qualification Tournaments are held four times per year and are usually the last two sessions of each term.
We make sure to share the exact dates with all players at the beginning of each term. This way, everyone knows exactly when they're scheduled, and we can prevent anyone from missing out
In the past, some players got injured or planned trips during the qualification tournament. This mean that these players lost all their matches by default, and in some instances they got demoted within our squad structure.
Who?
Only successful term applicants can participate in our qualification tournaments.
Permanent members who genuinely cannot participate in the qualification matches may still retain their spot in their current squad after gaining approval from the head coach prior to the Qualification Tournament being held.
New players joining must compete in the second stage round robin to earn their place in the appropriate squad.
The two lowest-ranked and two highest-ranked players who competed will be part of their respective squad's second-stage round robin.
